Pike Place Market

We moved from the Seattle area several years ago, and I still miss heading to the Pike Place Market on the weekends.  If you ever are in that area you have to make a stop at the market.  The following blog is the Pike Place Market Blog with great recipes and information about the market.

This issue has a fantastic recipe for Curried Zucchini Soup.

The Fava Bean Challenge Recipe

I soaked the dried fava beans overnight and started the search for a great recipe.  I looked at loads and finally settled on a recipe for BESSARA.  The recipe makes a hummus like dip although a thinner consistency and is served warm.  YUMMY.......  It is a quick and easy recipe.  We love hummus, so this was a great hit.

ggscloset1108 - how to choose your own maternity clothes lot

With the cooler weather upon us, it's time to expand that summer maternity wardrobe.  ggscloset1108 will always have some clothing lots, but the great majority of maternity clothing listed will be individual items.  That gives you the opportunity to choose those items you need and want to start or expand your maternity wardrobe.

Choose Your Own Lot is your way to pick 2 or more items and get adjusted shipping prices that are lower than paying for items to be shipped one by one.

  •       You shop ggscloset1108 from the comfort of your own computer
  •       Choose your items from tops, pants, dresses, skirts, sweaters and more
  •       Do not pay for your items immediately
  •       Contact me and let me know you have completed shopping or request total
  •       I will pull all of your items, wrap and package for shipping and re-weigh as a total
  •       You will receive an updated invoice with the updated weight and your shipping options and costs
  •       Once payment is received I ship your purchase directly to your door

I hear you asking > “So do I really save money on shipping?”

US – 5 items purchased: based upon zip the total cost of shipping of the 5 items would have been $28.  Reweighing the items as a lot, the shipping cost changed to $9.45.  An  awesome savings of $18.55.  You have saved enough on shipping for another item or two.

Go to ggscloset1108 to see all of the great maternity clothes to choose from.  Items are added frequently.

sweeT emptationS Amish Bakery - Port Charlotte Florida

A new Bakery opened its' doors 2 weeks ago and today was out first visit.  sweeT emptationS Amish Bakery is located in Port Charlotte Florida in a cute place just of Hwy 41.  The baked goods are amazing to say the least.

The Berry Crumble is loaded with fruit and has just the right sweetness and crunch.  Chris had one of the Pecan Rolls - YUM - gooey and loaded with pecans.

We waited for the cinnamon rolls to come out of the oven so we could bring some home for ourselves and the kids.  As we sat inside the store and had our goodies with some coffee, you could smell the baking sweetness of cinnamon and sugar waft throughout the store.  And believe me; it was well worth waiting for.

sweeT emptationS Amish bakery will also ship all of those scrumptious items to you.  I’m already thinking about gifts for Christmas.  How fun.  We were also told by the owners' mother Kathy, that she could also make all of her items sugar free.  Wow, what a plus.

We were trying to figure out what our 3 y.o. grandson would pick when we bring him to the store - it will probably be one of those filled muffins that are as big as his head!!

YUMMY – what will we try next?

The FAVA BEAN Challenge

I have always wanted to try a recipe with FAVA BEANS but have never seen fresh or dried beans in my local stores. Thanks to WHOLE FOODS I now have some dried as well as fresh beans. The search is on for recipes. I think I'll soak the dried beans tonight and make something wonderful tomorrow. Any one have a suggestion for a FAVA BEAN recipe?

I love saving money

And I bet you do too...  Here is one of my favorite blogs

Living Well, Spending Less

We love boating

We love boating, and both Chris and I have been on boats since we were kiddos.  Our folks had a great love of the water that they passed on to us, as we have to our kids.  Now we are working on the grandchildren.  What a hoot to take our almost 3 year old grandson out for the day.  He is so comfortable on the boat, and there is never an argument about putting on the life jacket - even when the boat is at the dock.  "I drive it all by myself" is his great want.  Chris had to tell him he had to be older, he had to wait till he was 10.  I think Erik will hold him to that.

Pretty Girl is our 25 ft Parker.  We are setting all of the plans in motion to be able to purchase and move aboard a larger vessel.  So do you think I can sell everything out of my house through eBay over the next several years?  I sure am going to give it a whirl.

I love to cook and pass on great recipes

Roasted Garlic

I love making roasted garlic.  Its milder flavor is great for using in loads of recipes, and it makes a fantastic and cost effective gift for a wonderful friend.  They will be coming back for more!

Ingredients:

Fresh garlic cloves – already peeled.  You can get these in large containers in the refrigerator section at Costco, BJ’s, or Sams Club.
Chicken broth
Sprigs of fresh rosemary
Olive oil
Salt
Aluminum Foil
Glass jar for storing your roasted garlic

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Prepare a glass dish – a casserole, loaf pan, or a cake dish will do – just have a large enough or several container to do the entire container of garlic.  Put a little olive oil in it and wipe it around with a paper towel

Open the container of garlic cloves and trim the hard root end off cloves if needed
Put all of the garlic cloves into the glass dishe(s)
Add chicken broth to be approx. ¼ up the side of the dish
Put 2 – 3 sprigs of rosemary on top
Drizzle olive oil over the top of the garlic cloves and rosemary
Sprinkle salt over all
Cover tightly with aluminum foil

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.  Cloves are done when soft – test with a fork by mashing down on several.  Be careful when taking off the foil cover, open slightly and let the steam escape before  pulling off the entire cover.  Let cool and place in glass jar with lid and store in your refrigerator.

Use for making garlic butter, just spreading on bread, to your homemade pizza, or in any recipe calling for garlic.

Have you read a great book recently?

I love to read, but I frequently do not take the time I should.  Recently I can across a series of books that I really enjoy.  I am just finishing Stormy Weather by Carl Hiaasen.  This book has kept me in that reading mood, and I love it.

Carl Hiaasen has an amazing ability to spin a story that reels you in wanting to know what’s happening next.  You will find yourself staying up a little bit later than usual to get to a spot where you think you can put the book down.

If you Google Carl Hiaasen, you can read about him on his own web site www.carlhiaasen.com.

You will not be disappointed in Stormy Weather- - - - A hurricane and a non stop bevy of wild and wonderful characters set in South Florida.

ggscloset1108 My eBay store

I mentioned in a previous post that I had read loads of books before starting to sell on eBay.  I really believe that taking the time to have a better understanding about the workings of eBay and PayPal helped me avoid many mistakes at the beginning.

The following are the books I read and found helpful.  Many have a lot of the same information, but for me, it confirmed that what I was reading was probabally right.  The books listed are in no certain order.  And of course, I bought several on eBay to keep as a reference.

eBay for Dummies - Marsha Collier
Absolute Beginners Guide to eBay - Michael Miller
The Official eBay Bible - Jim Griffith
The eBay Seller's Tax and Legal Answer Book - Cliff Ennico
eBay Powerseller Secrets - Debra Schepp & Brad Schepp
Titanium eBay - Skip McGrath

I also found that eBay also has a radio show that presents LOADS of great information about 2 times a week.  Tuesdays is "eBay Radio" and Thursdays "Ask Griff and Lee".  Sign up through Groups on eBay for the eBay radio Broadcast.  I have learned something new every time - including ideas to help improve my business.

Believe me, it will be well worth your time to learn as much as you can to ease the jump into making eBay your full time business.

ViritualOnlineLearning.com

I joined Danna Crawfords' Viritual Online Learning about a month ago and am amazed at all that's offered.  Her "How to Tweek Your Blog" earlier this week gave me some of the tools to be able to start my blog yesterday.  Of course this is a huge learning curve for me, but I know my blog will get even better with time.  Thanks Danna for the push.

Yea!!   Learn something new every day.  I actuall got the badge to show up!!!

ggscloset1108 my ebay store

Wow, when I started ggscloset1108 I had no idea just how much fun I would have and exactly how much I would learn by having my own business on eBay.  I started out reading everything I could get my hands on.  The local library system was a wealth of information on all things eBay.  I purchased several books that gave me a great grounding and ggscloset1108 was up and running.  After 1 year of serious selling and some mistakes along the way, I still love it.

Ggscloset1108 began with a few sales of collectibles from around the house and then some clothing, and rapidly moved into maternity clothing.  You see with 3 daughters (and 2 grand children), and a background as a Labor and Delivery RN,  maternity clothing was a normal progression for me.  I still sell collectibles I find when I am out and about, or finding that box I moved across the U.S. and have never opened (my husband reminds me "$0.80 a pound for moving that stuff you haven't opened).  It is a learning opportunity every day.

I've always wanted to start a blog

I've always wanted to start a blog, and with a push and some more encouragement from others - today it is born.  Grandma Gails Notes will be around to help make life easier for you in some simple way every day.  Whether it is a recipe,  a weeks worth of menus to help you make it through a very busy week, a fun fact or just an encouraging word. I am hoping that you will find a nugget to help you through your day.

10.20.10   Live everyday to your fullest.   Be thankful that you woke up and have a choice.   And learn something new every day.
